About Us
The dream of Corroboree began in January 2003
when Virginia Bourdeau, 4-H Specialist with Oregon State University
Extension, and Robin Galloway, 4-H Agent/Wildlife Stewards Training
Team, visited the Morwell River Wetland (Victoria, Australia)
project with Max Sargent, lead teacher for the Science in the
Schools Research program.
Virginia, and her husband Alex, also toured the Amphibian
Research Center (Melbourne, Vic.) with Sargent and Researcher
Gerry Marantelli. The last hope for the Southern Corroboree Frog now lies in
a captive breeding program involving students at the Amphibian Research Center.
In the wild approximately 150 adults remain on Mt. Kosciuszko. This was followed
by a visit from Sargent to California and Oregon to study web-based inquiry
programs, and tour Oregon schools with a wetland education and/or 4-H
Wildlife Stewards program. Establishing a method
for the teachers and learners in Victoria and Oregon to continue
these relationships "across the seas" is the next step.
Teachers can request information about how to register their class to join
the Corroboree.
